    Last updated 1 year ago

Did you know that Buick has been a part of the movies since the movies began? Since the days when the silver screen showed moving pictures in black and white, the brand has been there for the memorable moments. Take a look at some of our favorite moments:

    • 1943: Humphrey Bogart appears in two different 1940 Buicks during the movie Casablanca. A Century Convertible Coupe and a Limited Convertible Phaeton.

    • 1982: Judge Reinhold is seen driving and washing a 1960 Buick LeSabre Sedan in the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

    • 1988: Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruse take the roads in a 1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible during ?Rain Man.

    • 1990: The affluent McCallisters are a two-Buick family in the movie Home Alone. They have an Electra Estate and a LeSabre sedan.

    • 2001: Josh Hartnett and Ben Affleck are awoken in the seats of a 1941 Buick Roadmaster Phaeton to the sounds of machine guns. You can see the power that the straight 8 had to get them to the airfield so quickly.

    • 2006: In "The Departed" Irish mob boss Frank Costello is seen driving a 1994 Buick Roadmaster Sedan.

    • 2009: A 1987 Buick Grand National is in the opening scene of ?The Fast and The Furious?. Driven by Dominic Terreta, played by Vin Diesel.

Stop in today and see the future of Buick that you will be seeing in the movies very soon. Give us a call at 330-SWEENEY to set up an appointment or stop in at 7997 Market Street! These are just some of our favorites, what are yours?

Potholes? No problem for the Cruze.

    Last updated 1 year ago

Lets face it, we had a mild winter this year. And even though they're not expecting any torrential snow falls, we are still going to be haunted by the remnants...The Pot Holes. Potholes are caused by the buildup of moisture in the small holes and cracks in the road during the winter months that is accelerated by the freezing and thawing as temperatures fall and rise, causing expansion and contraction of the road surface.

Lordstown's own Chevrolet Cruze is specifically tested for these conditions. The Cruze which has been tested for conditions ranging from Korea to Kansas, has suspension specifically meant to absorb the brunt of these bumps as well as quieting technology to help you avoid the noises that come with the territory as well.

Even though the Cruze is built at GM Lordstown, it was tested at GM's Milford Proving Ground. The facility has a wide variety of road surfaces that are meant to simulate real world driving conditions for locations around the globe.

"For durability we might want roads with potholes or twist events. For noise, it could be chatter bumps on a dirt road or concrete that is getting old and bald. Then there are considerations such as loose gravel for handling, etc" said Frank Barhorst, the supervisor for the Product Usage Measurements and Applications group in Milford. The potholes that you'll here don't look like the ones we will see though. These potholes are specifically designed, fabricated in metal and then plated into the ground with concrete surface around them. There are different pot holes to test different severity of road damage.

Since late 2009 the Cruze has sold more than 1.13 million units. That means that our Valley produces Chevrolet's best-selling nameplate and is a major contributor to the reason why the brand has sold more passenger cars than any other automaker in the US in 2011 as well as the world's largest automobile manufacturer in the world.

Come see for yourself why over 1 million people have chosen the Cruze. If you have any questions feel free to email us at SweeneySales@sweeneycars.com or give us a call at 330-SWEENEY. You can also just drop by at 8010 Market Street.

What Volt owners have to say about their cars

    Last updated 1 year ago

At Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC we talk a lot about the Chevrolet Volt. We talk about the 900+ miles you can get out of one tank of gas, the affordability, the lack of a foot print that it leaves on the environment, etc. But, instead of listening to us talk about it, why don't you hear first hand what a couple Volt owners had to say about what it's like to own the car of the future.

How was everyone's weekend? Is anybody ready to go back to work on Monday.

    DIY just got easier.

    Last updated 1 year ago

It's that time of the year where the DIY projects come out, and that "honey do list" never seems to get smaller. Luckily for you, GMC is making it easier than ever to knock all that work out.

Where it's the Terrain or the Sierra, every GMC is capable of carrying the load. The Sierra 1500 is a half-ton pickup, the 2500HD is a quarter-ton pickup and the 3500HD is a full 1 ton pickup. The Sierra has various cab sizes and trims as well. The Acadia, GMC's midsize crossover has been updated for 2013 and DIY projects were a part of development from day one. The core of the Acadia's new design was centered around the ability to accommodate a 4-foot-wide peice of dry wall or plywood. Load height was even considered during the process. The load height was set at an average waste level to avoid strains and excess bending.

Not to mention GMC vehicles come equipped with SmartSlide. This is an industry exclusive feature in GM crossovers that allow one handed adjustment and access to the second and third row seats.

"Im at the home improvement store all the time and I still haven't come across anything that won't fit in my Acadia. I've slid the SmartSlide seats forward to fit small trees without tipping them over, and I've slid the second row rearward to put heavy pots securely on the floor. Smart slide is all about the conformability, you can even slide the second row back enough to recline the front passenger seat fully to carry a ladder." Said Sue Eckel, GMC Vehicle Chief Engineer.

Eric Stromer hosts HGTV's "Over Your Head" and is a do-it-yourself expert. He is also a GMC driver and had this to say about his Sierra Hybrid: "I've been a contractor forever so I wouldn't even consider a vehicle that can't fit plywood and other materials. The crew cab is good for my kids, I can tow cement mixers and other equipment and with it being a hybrid, it offers that capability with a lower carbon footprint."
