GM Robots help spread holiday cheer

    Last updated 5 years ago

A few of General Motors’ 25,000 manufacturing robots are taking a break from their daily welding, fastening and painting chores to spread some holiday cheer.

Of course, it’s a strictly programmed activity, not a rogue rise of the machines. While unusual, the ho, ho, ho-larious task is just an offshoot of GM’s drive to develop flexible manufacturing systems. GM has influenced the development of a variety of robots – including those used in stamping, welding, painting, and assembly.

Fifty years ago, GM manufacturing engineers helped define the robotics industry. The company's 1961 collaboration with “Father of Robotics” Joseph Engelberger resulted in the first industrial robot used in a GM production facility, and is generally regarded as a technological/industrial milestone.

GM also played a key role in development of the robotics industry with the 1982 establishment of the GMFanuc joint venture. FANUC, as it is known today, is one of the world's largest makers of industrial robots.

GM still leads the industry in the development and use of commercial robotics in its manufacturing processes, purchasing and implementing approximately 3,000 robots globally each year.

The Bar has been raised again! Check out all of the details of the 2014 GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado!

    Last updated 5 years ago

The 2014 GMC Sierra and 2014 Chevrolet Silverado are going to be the most advanced and refined trucks ever produced in the more than a century of Chevrolet and GMC! Today at a press conference at 9:30AM General Motors Chief Engineer Jeff Rich spilled all of the details of the new trucks.

The two trucks are going to be more differentiated than ever, from the body styles to the interior design. No longer will our competitors be able to tell us that the only difference is the badge on the front of the truck. The one thing the Sierra and Silverado are going to share is the all new, most technologically advanced engine designs. General Motors redesigned 3 engines, a 4.3L V6, 5.3L V8 and a 6.2L V8 Engine. All of which are engineered for the way our customers will use them. They will feature direct fuel injection and most importantly cylinder deactivation for maximum performance and minimal fuel consumption. Cylinder deactivation provides full power when its needed and when it's not, the engine deactivates all but 4 of the cylinders.

The interior is redesigned and quieter than ever. Check out the photos below! A big upgrade is that the interior will now be more connective than ever, with standard MyLink and IntelliLink as well as other features including BlueTooth, voice activation, etc.

The Sierra and Silverado offer a more confident drive than ever. General Motors believe that the safety features on these trucks are leaps and bounds above the competition! They will feature 4 wheel disk brakes, an automated locking differential, forward collision alert, lane departure, trailer sway control, hill start assist, stabilitrak, anti-lock brakes and traction control!

Finally, the most notable change is the all new exterior of the trucks. They offer a stronger and sleeker design with new aero-refinements. These will be a huge part of what contributes to the improved fuel efficiency. It will feature 5% less drag, and for the first time ever...Inlaid doors! The Sierra and SIlverado are also going to feature a 6.5 Foot Bed, which is larger than the 5.5 foot that comes standard now. Also new to the bed will be an EZ lift and lower tailgate that won't slam down as well as LED Lighting in the bed!

We will be releasing more information as it becomes available. If you have any questions, email us at or give us a call at 330-SWEENEY!

We can't wait to see these trucks hit our showrooms!
