GMC Celebrates 100 years with "Heritage Editions"

Last updated 5 years ago

100 years ago, a truck appeared at the New York Auto Show that had the abbreviation GMC on the front. Now, a century later, GMC is unveiling the Yukon, Yukon XL and Sierra Heritage Editions, at the same auto show.

GMC was formed in 1912 when the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company merged with two others - Reliance and Randolph - to become the brand known today as GMC. If you would like to learn more about GMC's history check out this great website.

Each model is adorned with a special commemorative exterior badge on the door. Below is one of the original badges you would have seen on the early GMC trucks.

The 2012 Heritage Editions will be offered on the Sierra 1500 Crew Cab, Yukon and Yukon XL models in SLT Trim. They will come in three different colors: Heritage Blue (New), White Diamond and Onyx Black.

The Sierra Heritage Edition will include:

  • Unique "Heritage Edition" exterior badge
  • Embroidered floor mats
  • Embroidered front headrests
  • Chrome door handles, mirror caps and door moldings
  • 20-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels
  • Convenience package with rear park assist, adjustable pedals, Universal Home Remote, EZ-Lift locking tailgate and rear wheelhouse liners.
  • Rear-vision camera

The Yukon and Yukon XL will include:

  • Heritage Edition exterior badge
  • Embroidered front floor mats
  • Embroidered front headrests
  • SLT-2 Equipment Package with 10-way leather memory seats, headed second row seats with power release, power-operated liftgate and heated side mirrors
