Say hello to the Chevrolet Camaro 1LE. The Camaro 1LE performance package returns for the 2013 model year with improved gearing, suspension tuning and tires that make the model capable of more than ?1 G of lateral acceleration and a sub-three minute lap time at Virginia International Raceway.
For the 2013 model year, all SS models, including the 1LE will feature a standard variable-effort electric power steering and an available dual-mode exhaust system. Additionally, the 2013 Camaro LT, SS and ZL1 will be available with Chevrolet's color touch radio with MyLink. .
"The Camaro 1LE combines the best elements of the SS and ZL1 to take road-racing performance to a whole new level, that the 1LE breaks the three-minute lap at VIR puts it in the upper echelon of performance cars. That it starts under $40,000.00 makes the Camaro 1LE one of the most affordable, most capable track-day cars offered by any manufacturer" says Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer
In fact, in anticipation of consumers entering in racing events, Chevy is seeking SCCA approval for the 1LE package.
The 1LE package is offered only on 1SS and 2SS couple models. It features a 6.2L, LS3 V8 giving it over 425 horsepower as well as 420 lb-ft of torque. It is only available in manual shift engines.
You may remember that last month we posted an exclusive sneak peak at the ZL1 Camaro. The 1LE has borrowed some of that technology! Here's the shared components between the two:
- 10 spoke 20x10 front and 20x11 rear aluminum wheels.
- Goodyear Eagle Supercar G:2 tires
- ZL1 wheel bearings, toe links and rear shock mounts.
- ZL1 high capacity fuel pump and fuel pickups.
- Microfiber suede trimmed flat bottom steering wheel
- Short throw shifter, also trimmed in microfiber suede.
Customers will be able to spot the 1LE by its matte-black hood, front splitter and rear spoiler.
