Did you know that since 2007, 79 of the NASCAR Sprint Cup winners have driven a Chevy? This past Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 3 out of the top 5 spots were occupied by the Impala. Chevy announced on Tuesday that for the 2013 season, they will be racing a vehicle based on a new nameplate.
"We are keeping the wraps on the new car and will continue to prepare for next season by testing camouflaged vehicles. We know that Chevrolet fans are eager to see the new race car and we hope that the prospect of being able to own one just like it will make the wait a little more bearable." - Jim Campbell, VP of Chevy Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.
Chevrolet's legacy of racing excellence goes back deep into the brand's history. Louis Chevrolet, Chevy's co-founder, had a strong passion for racing cars. Chevy has won the NASCAR Sprint Cup Manufacturer's Championship 35 times. Corvette Racing has taken seven class trophies at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and between 1988 and 2002 a Chevy branded engine has won the Indianapolis 500 seven times.
