Models of cars come and go, everyone knows that. However, one model that hasn't gone anywhere is the Chevrolet Malibu. The nameplate that has become a fixture of the Chevrolet family just got even better. Completely redesigned for 2013, the Malibu features an all new look (pictured below at the Pittsburgh Auto Show), improved safety features, eAssist, and much more.
The new Malibu features a 2.4L, 182 horsepower ECOTEC engine that is capable of achieving up to 37 mpg on the high way. So what exactly is eAssist? It's a technology developed by general motors which uses a small lithium-ion battery to assist the engine in start and stop traffic, at higher speeds and on inclines (the three occasions you use the most fuel). The battery is charged by a technique known as regenerative breaking (the battery is recharged by the friction and electricity that is created by breaking.)
Safety is always a priority whenever Chevrolet hits the drawing board. That was no exception with the Malibu. Coming standard with 8 air bags. The airbags are equipped with safety sensors that ensure the proper air bags are deployed, should you need them. OnStar also comes standard on the 2013 Malibu, and is free for the first 6 months, which means that you will receive OnStar's Automatic Crash Response. Take a look at Chevrolet Product Specialist Lisa in the video below talking about the safety features of the Malibu.
The Malibu was designed to make driving the most comfortable part of your day. Let's start with the newest addition to the Malibu, My Link. My Link is Chevrolet's Infotainment System, which comes standard on the Malibu. The 7 inch color touch screen allows you to access XM/FM/AM Radio and with the available USB Port you can plug in your iPhone, iPod, Flash Drive, etc. You can also use apps such as Pandora and Stitcher. This can all be controlled by manually touching the screen or by using the voice commands. My Link will also act as your monitor for the available backup camera, if you chose to get that as an option. A couple other nifty features of the Malibu Eco are the Driver Information Center which offers trip/fuel information, average speed and direction, Turn-By-Turn Navigation provided by OnStar, and it even shows you the status of your eAssist System. You can also constantly monitor your driving behavior using the new ECO Gauge. Keeping the guage in the green will increase your fuel economy.
