"Sweeney believes in the Mahoning Valley and the mission of the United Way to make a difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors involved with the agencies that it supports" - Mr. Doug Sweeney, Dealer Principal, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC
The Mahoning Valley United Way has been providing funding to nonprofit organizations here at home for over 90 years. Today, the United Way provides this funding to over 70 organizations. Organizations that our friends and neighbors depend on in a tough economic time. That is why when Bob Hannon, the President of the United Way asked our Dealer Principal, Doug Sweeney to step up again for this year's campaign Mr. Sweeney delivered by offering a two year lease on a Lordstown built Chevrolet Cruze to be used however they saw fit. Mr. Sweeney has been involved with the United Way for quite some time and even chaired the fundraising campaign for the 2007-2008 year.
It was decided that the lease would be used as a prize to be raffled off following the 2011-2012 campaign, more specifically as an incentive to YSU Faculty Members. Any YSU faculty member who donated more than $104.00, or $2.00/day over the course of the campaign was eligible to win. YSU's faculty members stepped up big, including EVERY coach on the Football team donating to the cause. The winner of the Cruze was Mary Hake, who works for the Dean of Liberal Arts.
This year's United Way campaign raised $2.4M and was chaired by YSU President Dr. Cynthia Anderson. Every dollar of this money will stay in the Mahoning Valley to continue to support the non profit organizations that the United Way funds.
From all of us here at Sweeney we would like to extend a special thank you to every one who donated to the campaign, and congratulate Mary on winning her new car! We are very proud to be a part of the United Way campaign.
