The General Motors foundation has been partnered with the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute for over 15 years. Since the beginning of this partnership, the foundation has donated over $6,000,000.00 to be used for cancer research including most recently a $400,000.00 donation. Gerold Bepler, the president and CEO of the Karmanos Institute had this to say: "We're incredibly grateful for the unprecedented commitment from GM and the GM Foundation. Thanks to all of our supporters, we are developing the next standard of cancer care that will be used around the world."
In addition to the continued support of the GM Foundation, GM Senior VP of Global Product Development Mary Barra (and her husband Tony) will be the chairs of the 30th Anniversary Dinner of the Institute. "Tony and I are honored to be able to build upon the success of last year's event by chairing the 2012 Annual Dinner. The opportunity to serve an organization that is dedicated to eradicating cancer is a special privlege for us" said Barra. Last year's event was chaired by CEO Dan Akerson and his wife Karin. Last year over $868,000.00 was raised.
The event will be hosted in Warren, Michigan at the GM Technical Center.
