How Chevrolet is giving back to those who are willing to give it all.

Last updated 5 years ago

This past Sunday at a Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona GM Auctioned off a special Military Tribute Camaro (pictured below). The 2010 Camaro SS was air brushed by award winning artist Mickey Harris. The car represents all five branches of the armed forces as well as the military's highest commendations and recent campaigns. The project was commissioned by the GM Military Discount Program with the beneficiary being the Achilles Freedom Team. Chris Perry, VP of Global Chevrolet Marketing had this to say: "The Military Tribute Camaro was designed to honor our armed forces heroes. Now, thanks to its generous new owner, it will help our injured veterans rebuild their lives through the excellent work of the Achilles Freedom Team"

The Achilles Freedom Team is an organization dedicated to helping wounded soldiers of every branch overcome their injuries through sports. The artist Mickey Harris grew up on military bases and his 33 year portfolio is full of military art. Before the car arrived at the auction it toured 30 bases nationwide as well as The Pentagon.

As the auction neared closing, bidding was in six figures, until the final hour. In this hour, an online bidder spiked the bidding up to $175,000.00!

This was not the first Camaro auctioned by Chevy to benefit our Country's Soldiers however. Last june, a 2012 Honor and Valor Limited Edition Camaro SS was auctioned for $100,000.00 with this car's beneficiary being Cell Phones for Soldiers. (Pictured Below)

This is just one of the many ways that Chevy is giving back to our soldiers. Take a look at some of the other charities they have partnered with and get familiar with the General Motors Military Discount Program.

Achilles Freedom Team: In 2011 Chevy underwrote Achilles costs for a portion of the athletes who competed in the LA, Boston and Detroit marathon. A Silverado HD and 20 hand cycles were donated by Chevrolet.

Cell Phones for Soldiers: In 2011 Chevy raised $212,000.00 worth over 100,000 hours of talk time. This was done through the auctioning of an Honor and Valor Camaro, and through a donation of $100.00 for every car and truck sold during Military Appreciation Month. Chevy has been a partner of Cell Phones for Soldiers since 2010. Since then over 70,000 used cell phones have been collected!

GM Military Discount Program: GM Offers GM Preffered Pricing (the same price extended to GM Suppliers) as a military discount! This is considered to be the most generous discount in the auto industry. For more information on the military discount please visit: https://www.gmmilitarydiscount.com/ip-vpp/
The website also features loads of helpful features from financing to finding your car.

This is just a small portion of what Chevy is doing for our Veterans, Active Duty Soldiers and their Families. Throughout the year Chevy sponors many special activities.

Take a look at what Military Veteran Brian Anderson had to say about his visit to Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC in the video featured below.

From the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC family: we would also like to extend a special thank you to all of the members of the military both past and present.
